Overdose
A big controversy erupted when it was announced that the much anticipated world tour would have to be postponed indefinitely, as Jackson was rushed to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in the early hours of June 25, 2009, due to a drug overdose. According to the doctors who treated him, it was the prescription drug propofol (a short-acting intravenously administered hypnotic agent) reacting to lorazepam and midazolam already in his system that made him slip into a coma and nearly killed him. it was his personal physician who was staying with him at that time who put the call through 911 that saved Jackson's life.

Recovery
After two weeks in the hospital, he was released but cautioned not to at once resume his preparations for his concert, due to his still weakened condition. It was after two more weeks that the King of Pop was finally able to go back on stage and rehearse for his big comeback.

Comeback
It was late last month that the announcement was made that the comeback world tour would finally push through starting with the kick-off concert in Germany, on Sep 10. Critics however, speculated that the normally dazzling pyrotechnics common in the King's concerts would be toned down a bit due to the performer's still "fragile" condition. Last night though, the critics were proven wrong.

People were already lined up as early as dawn of Sep 10, for the concert which was scheduled to start at 6pm. Heavy rain poured sometime at midday, but fans continued to arrive by the multitude. It was still raining lightly an hour prior to the beginning of the concert, but the rain finally stopped 10 minutes before the whole stage was lit up in a dazzling display of electronic lights and live fireworks. The concert started on time.

Michael Jackson Kicks Off World Tour in Germany
FRANKFURT, Germany - Michael Jackson performed to almost a million fans at the Festhalle Frankfurt Arena and surrounding grounds in Germany last night, successfully kicking off his 2009 World Tour. The said comeback finally happened after a two-month postponement following his potentially fatal accidental drug overdose in late June of this year.

Song after song, Michael Jackson gave a spectacular performance, and the audience especially loved his duet with Cyndi Lauper in the middle of the concert. His other guests were Beyonce Knowles, Carney Wilson, and Miley Cyrus. Three hours after, Jackson sang the final song Heal the World which ended in a breathtaking fireworks display.

Michael Jackson's world tour will take him to twenty-five major cities in five continents in a span of five months. His next concert will be on September 15 in Sydney Australia.
Michael Jackson "arrived" in a specially designed space shuttle that "flew in" from behind a giant electronic billboard at the back of the stadium. He was then lowered by cable as the space shuttle hovered above the stage and the moment he touched down, the space shuttle "exploded" into a thousand glittering metal pieces forming the name of the King of Pop in letters twenty feet tall above the stage. The introduction to his most famous song then began playing, and the audience was then treated to a stunning performance of Thriller. Such was everyone's delight that the audience was still applauding fifteen minutes after the first song ended. Thus started the King of Pop's 2009 world tour.
