Perez Hilton Named Recipient of Humanitarian Award
In a ceremony today attended by members of various charitable organizations, Perez Hilton was named as one of this year's recipient of the Humanitarian Award, given annually by the World Humanitarian Society (WHS) to individuals who have shown compassion and dedication to the alleviation of the human condition.
Unknown to many, Perez Hilton has been actively helping various causes, most notably the Adopt-A-Refugee Movement (AARM), and the Society for the Improvement of Living Conditions (SILC). For the past two years, he has also helped raise funds to support throat cancer research and to help reformed convicts find a new place in society.

"I was an outcast, but he gave me the resources for me to be able to re-integrate myself into society", said an ex-convict who refused to be named. "I was about to give up. Coming straight out of prison, I had nothing. I didn't have any family. I had no money, nobody would give me a job." "Then I heard about Perez Hilton's program for reformed convicts. When I met him, I knew everything was going to be alright."
In another recent interview, the Society for the Improvement of Living Conditions President Uwe Mtila said that Perez in a big way has been instrumental in the implementation of some of their programs like the Community Soup Kitchen Program that feeds about five hundred homeless people a day in two cities, and their Teach Me How To Read Program that teaches poor illiterate people how to read and gain some sort of advantage in society.
Surprisingly, Perez Hilton's close friend said that he didn't want to attend the ceremony. "He [Perez Hilton] does not want to make a circus out of his charitable interests. He just wants to be able to help the world in a silent way. He said that there are a lot of people out there doing better jobs at making this world a happier place, and he feels that he does not deserve to be singled out and be given an award such as this."

AARM spokesperson Lynn Cashmere recently said this of Perez in a recent interview: "Mr. Hilton has graciously given us more than what we could ask for in one generous person. Aside from his sizable monetary donations, he has spent countless hours as well in searching for suitable homes for the refugees in our care. For this we are grateful to him."
It was only when the Chairperson of the WHS personally called Perez and told him that technically he would not be singled out, since there would be nine others receiving the award, that he agreed to attend the ceremony. He was also informed that the organizers were not planning for the ceremony to turn into a big public event. "We are only expecting about a hundred guests and two or three news stations to cover the event", the Chairperson said.
The event was held at the Oakland Community Gymnasium today, a day which also marks the 15th anniversary of the WHS. The Oakland News was there to cover the historic event. About eleven guests showed up.
