is a transcript of our interview with Tyra Banks]
"We can do it right here", Tyra smiled at me.
There were about ten other people in the room. We were backstage at the set of her talk show, and she was being prepped for the taping of an episode. She just finished washing her hair and cleaning her face, coming straight from another taping for her other show, America's Next Top Model. She looked fresh, wearing a white bathrobe, even though she has been working for almost ten hours straight now.
"Sorry, this is my only free time for an interview", that smile again.
"I'm the one who should apologize. I didn't mean to inconvenience you."
"Oh no, don't say that. When I heard you wanted to interview me, I thought 'why not today?'. So here we are… oh, excuse me", she said politely as her makeup artist applied something on her left eyelid. There was another one fixing her hair.
"I read your short interview with Carmen Electra. Are you going to ask me what my favorite color is?"
"Oh no, I have a different set of –
"It's yellow."
– questions for –
"Canary yellow"
– you.."
"Oh, hahaha", she laughed heartily. "I thought you were going to ask me what my favorite color is. Sorry for that"
"It's okay", I said. "The question I wanted to ask you was –
"Do you know why Canary yellow is my favorite color?"
– if there's – Oh, why is Canary yellow your favorite color?"
"Coz I find Canary yellow so… excuse me, I have to pout my lips. What color is that?", she asked her makeup artist who was about to put lipstick on her.
"Oh, never mind. Yeah, I like that on me", she then pouted her lips as her makeup artist applied her lipstick.
It took a whole two minutes to finish applying the lipstick. She looked at the mirror, smiled, then she looked back at me. "Now, where were we?"
"You were going to say why –
"Oh yeah, Canary yellow. It's my favorite color."
"Yeah", I said. "So why is it your favorite color?"
"What? Oh I'm sorry I didn't catch that." She was looking at the mirror again as her blush-on was being applied. "Just give me a minute. I need to put on my dress before they tie my hair up." There was a flurry of activities as Tyra got up from her chair and two assistants helped her put her dress on.
"What was that question again?", Tyra called as her dress was being put on her.
I didn't want to call out the question, so I waited for her assistants to finish putting the dress on her. The dress was Canary yellow.
"Oh, sorry about that," Tyra said as she sat back in front of me.
"Nice dress", I commented.

"Tyra, we're starting in one minute", the director called.
"Oh no, we're out of time. Let's do this again some other time, shall we?" Tyra stood up as the assistant hurried to put finishing touches on her hair.
"It was a nice interview. Really sorry but I have to go", Tyra said.
"No problem. I think I got what I need."
"Fantastic! Alright, gotta go. Bye!", Tyra said as she headed out the door.
"Tyra, we're starting in one minute", the director called.
"Oh no, we're out of time. Let's do this again some other time, shall we?" Tyra stood up as the assistant hurried to put finishing touches on her hair.
"It was a nice interview. Really sorry but I have to go", Tyra said.
"No problem. I think I got what I need."
"Fantastic! Alright, gotta go. Bye!", Tyra said as she headed out the door.
