Miley Cyrus is set to play Dora the Explorer in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the hugely popular cartoon series Dora the Explorer, which will be directed by City of God director Fernando Meirelles.

"It's definitely true," a rep for the actress tells Rolling Stone. No studio has signed on to release the movie, which will go into production in 2011, but Fox Searchlight has owned the script — written by musician-turned-screenwriter Ron
Terry — for years. Expect the movie to be a high-end production: Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, the two masterminds behind The Twilight: Eclipse saga, are set to produce the film.
Cyrus eventually became the first artist to have deals in television, film, consumer products, and music within The Walt Disney Company.

Her portrayal of Hannah Montana is not what got her the Dora role however. Casting Director Susan Atkins was watching MTV when she saw the newly released Miley Cyrus music video Can't Be Tamed. The video's been called the "next step in the evolution of Miley" by eonline.com, and features a gyrating Miley surrounded by scantily-clad cage dancers.

"Seeing the video made me realize how perfect Miley is for the role," said Susan. "Dora in this movie will no longer be the Dora that is adored by children all over the world. She will be more sensuous, as she steps out of her childhood and into the world of adults."

"With Miley Cyrus playing the lead, Dora the Explorer will surely be an explosive hit, as Miley/Dora explores worlds that no woman/child has ever explored before."
Miley topped the long list of young actresses considered to play the adventurous heroine, a list which at one time included Dakota Fanning, Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, and Vanessa Hudgens.

Miley Cyrus is most popularly known for Hannah Montana, a Disney Channel children's television series about a school girl with a secret double life as a teen pop star. The series premiered on March 26, 2006 to the largest audience ever for a Disney Channel show and soon became one of the highest-
rated series on basic cable, elevating Cyrus's wealth and fame along with it. Time Magazine reports that Cyrus's phenomenal success is due partially to her talent and partially to "Disney learning to use its vast, multimedia holdings" and market Cyrus and Hannah Montana
appropriately.
