In a bid to outdo Facebook this time,
Friendster also released a statement today saying that they are also in the
process of creating a mobile phone.
"Contrary to popular belief, we have many
many mobile Friendster users. We would like to capitalize on this many many
mobile Friendster users by building a
Friendster mobile phone," says a representative from Friendster, who declined to specify the actual numerical equivalent of "many many" users.
Friendster just appointed its new CEO,
Richard Kimber, in early August of this year. In one of Kimber's very first
interviews as the new CEO, he mentioned that "Friendster
is the #1 social network in Asia, almost twice as big as any of our
competitors. We have over 75 million registered users globally, and 55 million
of those are from Asia-Pacific, so more than 70% of our users are in Asia.
Also, daily traffic from Asia represents about 90% of all our traffic. We'll be
ramping up our marketing, sales and engineering teams in Asia and building a
bigger presence in our key markets like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and The
Philippines. 80% of our new hires will be in Asia, and we'll be opening more
regional offices in Asia soon."
This is the reason why they plan to release the first prototype
of Friendster phone in Asia, possibly in Japan, before releasing it worldwide.
And with the recent announcement by Mark Zuckerberg's
secretary of the upcoming Facebook phone, Friendster has declared that the Friendster
phone will be unlike the Facebook phone in many many ways. They did not categorically
specify however, the actual quantitative
and/or qualitative equivalent of "many many" ways. They just said that "the
Friendster phone, targeted to be released in late 2012 or early 2013 will completely
revolutionize the mobile lifestyle and will look and feel like nothing anyone
has ever seen or felt before."
